Who We Are
Welcome to Checkmate Community Incorporated, a nonprofit dedicated to serving and honoring United States military veterans and their families. The men and women who wore our nation's uniform gave so much — and far too many now spend their later years alone, in their own homes and in senior and nursing facilities.
We show up for them. Through friendly visits, enrichment activities, companionship, and connecting veterans and their families with the support they've earned, we make sure those who served are never forgotten.
Why We Exist
In Memory of William Sanford Sr.
Checkmate Community was founded and is dedicated in loving memory of William Sanford Sr., a veteran who served our country with honor. His life is the reason for this mission. In his name, we serve every veteran who answered the call — so that the respect and care they earned follows them all the days of their lives.

To serve and honor U.S. military veterans — including those in senior and nursing homes — and their families, with companionship, enrichment, and supportive services.
