About This Event
At Checkmate Community, our mission is to empower children who have been impacted by the incarceration of family members by teaching them how to become young entrepreneurs. We believe in breaking the chain of the past and creating a better future. This year, we're hosting our annual Back-to-School Bash — our most successful event yet!
Our event is packed with activities and services designed to set children up for success:
- Free physicals courtesy of JPS
- Free eye exams in partnership with Walmart
- Free hair braiding and haircuts
- Free phones from Stand Up Wireless
- Free backpacks full of school supplies
- Gaming truck, bounce houses, and live DJ
- 15+ vendors offering products and services
Our Impact
Last year, in 2023, we hosted the Back-to-School Bash and were able to serve 175 children. With the continued support and the dedication of our growing list of partners, we more than doubled our impact — serving over 350 children in 2024!
We are especially proud of our partnership with the City of Fort Worth, which has been a key collaborator both this year and last year. A big shout-out to Tandranike Johnson, the community event planner at Chisholm Trail Community Center. By teaming up with you, we are on our way to achieving great things.
We are already looking ahead to next year, with plans to make our event even bigger and better. Our goal is to reach even more children and families, providing them with the resources they need to thrive.
